Josh Boom is a fictional character in the Graffiti series, created by David Ragin.

The series' tritagonist, Josh is a superhuman with the ability to teleport himself and other objects through fire. Discovering his powers at a young age, Boom had a long, tired history of trouble; however, following the death of his younger twin brother James, he began a misguided journey of revenge under the moniker Eclipse before joining the Superhuman Community and beginning his new journey for redemption in an attempt to repent for his past actions.

In film, Josh Boom is portrayed by DK Williams, and has appeared in Graffiti: Welcome to Foxworth Enterprises (2015), and Graffiti: Heroes and Villains (2017).

Background[]

Josh Boom and his twin brother James were born in Detroit, Michigan, and at 12-years-old were taken by Child Protective Services and placed in foster care in Millennium City. Around this time, Josh and James became friends with Jerome Briggs and Brandon Williams. During this time, James took to the streets, and became involved with numerous gangs, while Josh learned of his superhuman ability to teleport through fire. One day, Josh learned from a mutual friend that James was most likely in too deep with a gang, and warned him that he was in danger. During a meeting that turned out to be a setup to kill the rival gang, Josh managed to save his brother, revealing to him his abilities. Josh would spend the next few years trying to convince his brother to stay away from the gang life, to no avail. This would lead to James eventually meeting Switchblade, and ultimately, his untimely death.

Upon finding his brother's dismembered body disposed in his own yard, Josh would become enraged, and take on the name Eclipse to try and track down his brother's killer. During this time, he would kill many gang members and usurp power from local gangs, only to disband the gang soon after. He would go as far as to try and bring down the notorious BHB Crime Family, specifically to avenge his brother's death; as the gang that James was in was directly associated to the BHB. He was shocked to discover that his father was one of the underbosses of the organization, but would still turn over him to the authorities.

Becoming increasingly violent and despondent, he would be approached one day by businessman Lucius Foxworth to channel his anger into a more productive medium. He would eventually get through to Josh, and he would join Foxworth Enterprises' secret superhuman division as his prime enforcer and secret hitman.

Powers and Abilities[]

Pyroportation: Josh's main superhuman ability is that he can teleport himself and anybody he touches instantaneously from one location to another without physically occupying the space in between through fire. His ability is very similar in execution to Dylan's, though it has been shown to be unable to reach the same distances. Despite being his natural ability, Josh seldom uses his power, instead choosing to enhance his combat techniques when necessary. He can teleport various weapons through fire, and has also shown the ability to remote teleport (teleporting matter/energy without physical contact). For an unexplained reason, his pyroportation would affect the length and style of his hair. However, he appears to have found a way to stop this from frequently happening.

Enhanced Durability: As a superhuman, Josh's body has the natural ability to sustain numerous blows of external assault, though his inner body can take damage if struck hard enough. He's taken hits from superhumans the likes of Switchblade and was able to take hits from Graffiti, Heatstroke and Frostbite.

Weaknesses[]

Morality: Following his recovery with the assistance of Lucius Foxworth, Josh has a tendency to switch between passive and aggressive problem resolution. The most notable example of this consequence is not killing Switchblade when the situation presented itself, and as a result, he was forced to aid him in his crimes.

PTSD: Josh has admitted to suffering periodically from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). This condition ranges from his upbringing, the loss of his brother, finding out the truth about his father, and regret from the lives he has taken on the orders of both Foxworth and Switchblade.
